About

Fiber and Facet is a work and education portfolio for Dustin J. Layton.  A diverse collection of projects and experiences help to describe where I am today, but won’t limit my future. This space serves as a supplemental online resume to efficiently communicate what it would be difficult to achieve in the traditional form.

I have loved working with my hands and making things since I was very young. I was fortunate in that respect, as my working and education have all pointed in the same general direction. With 15 years working in machining/fabrication and another 5 years in structural/finish carpentry, I have the confidence to achieve anything I set my mind to.

Education and learning in general has been a foundational theme of my life. I like books and the institution of college, but more importantly, I love being able to implement what I learn. With over 140 college credits and still counting, I am continually pushing my intellectual boundaries.

Fiber is for my appreciation of wood as a material and carpentry as a time honored trade. Facet is the fascination I have with metal as an incredibly dynamic material to work with and the equally dynamic skills required to effectively manipulate it through the mechanical arts.
